The Conservatives on
The Council charges people for use of sports centres and golf courses etc. These charges represent an important source of income for the Council. Many of these charges are set in law, but for some services the Council decides how much to charge.
This evening the cabinet considers a new charging policy. Part of this policy suggests that the Council might levy higher charges for non-residents than for residents. The Conservatives support this approach.
Responses to the Conservatives service plan consultation reveal that many users of the Councils amenities reside outside Swindon. The Conservatives believe it is wrong that Swindons Council Tax payers should subsidise the leisure activities of people from outside the borough. There are already enough urgent demands on the Councils finances.
