The Labour Councillors voted through a 15.5% Council Tax hike.
15.5% is 6 times inflation, with the Council Tax payer set to be 125 pounds worse off.
Two polls in the Evening Advertiser showed that residents were not prepared to stomach Council Tax hikes.
I believe that people are prepared to pay Fair Taxes to improve services, public consultation has shown that. However the disgraceful Local Government settlement from the Labour Government meant that we had to raise 5 million just to 'standstill'. This 5 million takes up the majority of the 15.5% Council Tax hike, leaving residents considerably worse off, with little improvement in services.
The Goverment is starving Swindon of essential resources, using the Council Tax hikes as a way to increase their Stealth Taxes - this is unacceptable.
