We will champion the vunerable - Iain Duncan-Smith

In his speech to the Conservative Spring Forum in Harrogate, the Leader of the Conservative Party, Iain Duncan Smith, has described how the Conservative Party will reach out to the vulnerable in society.

Mr Duncan Smith first said that never has a Government had so much and achieved so little. He explained, “in the beginning were the promises, then there were the breaking of those promises. Shorn of any principle or purpose apart from the naked pursuit of power for its own sake, this is not a joined-up Government, it is a Government coming apart at the seams. It is perfectly obvious that this Government is in the throes of a collective nervous breakdown. They have lost sight of who they are and have become fixated with how they look.” He pointed to the Easterhouse housing estate in Glasgow which he visited last month as a prime example of how Labour had failed the most vulnerable in society.

He continued, “Labour’s failure doesn’t just present us with an opportunity to offer a different way of doing things, it also presents us with a challenge. You and I know that we share the same concerns as everyone else, we want the same things, we have the same ambitions. If we don’t reflect the Britain we want to lead, we will never be asked to lead it.”

Mr Duncan Smith then declared that trust was vital, “if you trust people, you will find that they will build communities. They will support each other. Our job is to support them. This Government has become the most controlling, centralising, bullying and manipulating government we have had in my lifetime”.

He also talked about the direction the party is heading on the health service, education and policing our streets. He added, “the mission fit for the new century is to make this country theirs as much as it is ours. We are the Party fit for that purpose”.
