McDonalds Plans

Ashbrake Campaign Group & Councillor Justin Tomlinson

Swindon Borough Council are considering an application for a proposed development of 3 restaurants at the site of Junction 5 on the Northern Orbital Road.  (Adjacent to the entrance of Pennine Way)

There is strong opposition to these proposals, with the strength of feeling shown in the number of residents in Ash Brake who have already signed our petition of protest.  Many residents have also completed individual letters of objection.

Whilst we acknowledge that this land has been designated for Commercial use, it is vital it should only be for appropriate commercial use.

We will object to these proposals for a variety of reasons:

• Increased traffic volume will cause congestion.
• No proposed pedestrian crossings to access the site.
• The proposed development will be built within 10 metres of the residential area, certainly close enough to be affected by smell.
• Potential for the development to add to the problem of rodents and vermin.
• Proposed style of the building is not in keeping with the surround residential area.
• Inadequate plans for staff and customer parking, which will result in parking spilling over into our residential area.

Once these plans are discussed by the Council, we will raise our objections.
We will keep you all informed of progress, and if you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact:
