Commenting on the launch of Labour's local election campaign, Theresa May MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government & the Regions, said:
"Labour councils charge the highest council taxes in England and deliver
worse quality public services.
"Of the councils with the top twenty highest council tax in England,
fourteen are run by Labour, none are Conservative. Across all the different
tiers of local government, Labour councils charge an average of £135 a year
more on Band D bills.
"According to the independent Audit Commission, Labour councils have dirtier
streets, recycle less and have higher truancy in their schools. By contrast,
local residents are more satisfied with public services in Conservative
councils."
"On 2nd May, a vote for Labour is a vote for high taxes and worse public
services."
