Conservatives have launched their local elections campaign. The nationwide campaign took place in Bradford, with Conservative leader, Iain Duncan Smith and Theresa May, Shadow Secretary of State for Local Government.
Meeting local residents and councillors, Iain Duncan Smith explained that Conservatives would be concentrating on problems like crime, vandalism, lack of discipline in our schools and a failing transport system. He criticised Labours political failure, which he said had hurt some of the most vulnerable people in our society - the poor, the homeless and the elderly.
The launch also saw the publication of the Conservative Manifesto.
The manifesto points out how Conservative councils charge £135 a year less on Band D council tax bills than Labour councils and £159 a year less than Liberal Democrat councils. At the same time, according to Audit Commission statistics, Conservative councils have cleaner streets, recycle more, and local residents are more satisfied with the councils services, compared with Labour and LibDem councils.
Iain Duncan Smith concluded, Conservatives believe local people know whats best for their local community. Rather than issuing directives and red-tape from Whitehall bureaucrats, we believe life should be made better through neighbourhood initiatives delivered by local councils. Conservative councils are leading the way showing how it can be done. By voting Conservative on 2nd May, you can make a real difference to your local neighbourhood, and help make your and others lives better.
