Further Pilot Voting Schemes For Swindon's Elections

Ballot

Last May, Swindon participated in the successful pilot voting scheme, which allowed voters the opportunity to vote either by: internet, telephone, postal or traditional ballot box.

The scheme proved successful with many residents using the new methods on offer to vote.  Councillor Justin Tomlinson also recieved the highest number of internet votes in Swindon, which showed that the scheme was especially popular amongst Abbey Meads residents.

Swindon has once again been selected to offer these four methods of voting in this years elections, plus Swindon will also pilot digital TV voting, where people can vote through their TV where applicable.

Electors will be given full information on all the various channels of voting available to them in a number of leaflets that will be delivered to participating households as part of a publicity campaign that will be running from mid-February until e-voting commence on April 24th.

As these schemes are pilot schemes to test whether they improve voting levels, the cost is being met by central Government.
