Conservatives Find £2.5 million

Conservative's new style of managing the Council's finances have already resulted in the 'discovery' of £2.5 million of lost money.

Labour's track record of endless waste and mismanagement in Swindon Council, resulting in a 32% hike in Council Taxes in just 2 years cost them dearly, losing 6 seats in May's local elections, and seeing their grip of power in Swindon finally end.

The Conservative promised to take a firm grip on the Council's spending, with one of the first moves being to set up a 'Star Chamber' working group to specifically look at the Council's finances through quizzing senior Council officers about their departments budgets.

It was through the workings of the Star Chamber, that the £2.5 million was found in a dorment Housing Revenue Account,

This money is legally ring fenced for housing purposes, so can not be used to spend on any other areas of the Council.  However it will now be used to fund improvements, repairs and alterations to thousands of council accommodations across the borough.  This is fantastic news for local tenants.

JTCllr Justin Tomlinson, "This is yet another example of the Conservative applying better management to the Council.  It was a crucial, common sense move for the Conservatives to introduce the Star Chamber to sift through Council budget, with the results speaking for themselves.  The Conservatives are committed to improving Council services, and delivering better value for the long suffering Council Tax payers in Swindon."
