There is a special exhibition of the designs for an artwork for North Swindon which will be on show at the Haydon Centre between 27 - 31 August and at North Swindon Library between 2 - 19 September 2003.

Introduction
Swindon Borough Council has a Percent for Art Policy, administered by Artscape, by which developers are invited to allocate a proportion of the capital costs of a new development, refurbishment or landscaping scheme to works of art or design integral to that site. The policy aims to:

  • enhance the environment of Swindon
  • help to create local distinctiveness
  • create high quality innovative works of art
  • ensure a cultural legacy for future generations

Through this scheme the Council has secured a funding contribution from the North Swindon Development Company, the developer of the 6,000 home Priory Vale development, to create a public art project for the Junction 1 road junction on the North Swindon Orbital Road.

Architects/artists Softroom have been appointed to create an artwork for the site and their initial designs are exhibited here so that local residents can see them and offer their comments.
