As part of local democracy week, 13-19 October 2003, Cllr Justin Tomlinson will be participating in I'm a Councillor Get me Out of Here. In a TV style manner five local councillors will participate during the week answering questions posed by local school children. Every day through the votes of the children, one Councillor will be voted off. In addition to that, Councillors will have the chance of saying, "I'm a councillor get me out of here" to leave at any stage. The winner of the week long contest will be awarded the title King or Queen of Councillors. The event takes place in cyber-space through a web site interface allowing questions to be posed and answered during the day. Cllr Justin Tomlinson said, "This is a fantastic and fun project which gives young people a real opportunity to show us politicians what issues really matter. I hope they all log on and make us earn our money!" |
