How Things have changed...
Close your eyes and go back in time... Before the Internet....... Before SEGA or Super Nintendo...Way back ....... I'm talking about Hide and Seek in the park and Touch "your on it" !
Hopscotch, Butterscotch, Skipping, Handstands, Football with an old can.
Fingerbob, Beano, Dandy, Buster, Twinkle and Dennis the menace. Roly Poly, kiss touch, Hula Hoops, pogo sticks, pile on's, jumping the stream, building dams and rope swings. Climbing trees, Walking to school, no matter what the weather !
Running till you were out of breath, laughing so hard that your stomach hurt. Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles. Being tired from playing....remember that?
The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team. Water balloons were the ultimate weapon. Football cards in the spokes transformed anybike into a motorcycle. Choppers and Grifters.
Didn't that feel odd? Just to go back and say, Yeah, I remember that! Remember
when.... Decisions were made by doing the dip!!
How things have changed... Today children spend most of their time playing computer games, hours on nintendo - usually on their own. Letting your child go to the corner shop is enough to worry about never mind letting them go to the park to climb trees ! The resulting change in todays society has resulted in children becoming overweight and in some cases (far too many) even obese. Who's fault is it ? Certainly not the childs ! The British Heart foundation have recently published reports stating that childhood obesity is on the increase which has the devasting effect of causing heart disease later on in life. Diet is one contributing factor and it's upto the parents to change that but what else can they do ?
Well here is one solution. Linsey Williams an experienced playworker based in Priory Vale Swindon is setting up a Childrens activity club called Kidzplay. For children aged 5-11. The aim of the club is to promote childhood fitness and will hope to bring back facilities that will allow children to spend more time playing those well remembered favourites such as British Bulldogs, football rounders, Fizz Buzz and many more with the aim to promote fitness through fun activities. The club will run in the week as well as potentially weekends. The aim is to set up the club in the Priory Vale area in the near future with potentially other venues introduced based on demand.
If you have any feedback, would like further information or would like to register your child please contact Linsey Williams on 07810514860.
