Cllr Justin Tomlinson was interviewed on Radio Swindon this morning to discuss the long term future of the Oasis Skateboard Park, and the proposed drive for greater efficiency in Swindon Borough Council.
Skateboard Park - Oasis

As the Lead Member for Swindon Services, I was delighted to confirm that we are 110% committed to the Skateboard Park at the Oasis. I was very proud to broker the original deal between Swindon Borough Council and Stratton Parish Council which allowed the pilot scheme to go ahead prior to the Summer holidays.
We have now agreed to make the site a permanent one, because the pilot over the Summer has been such a huge success.
Firstly, hundreds of people have used the facility every day. This has exceeded all expectations, and has shown the need for a safe, good facility was justified.
Secondly, we have seen a reduction in the levels of anti-social behaviour, especially in areas like the town centre as the skaters have preferred to use this purpose built facility rather than improvised ones amongst shoppers etc.
If the site continues to be popular, we will continue to look at ways to develop the site further.
Council Efficieny

The Conservative controlled Council has made it clear we will increase efficiency in Swindon Borough Council, driving down waste and mismanagement that had fuelled Labour's unacceptable 42% Council Tax hike in just 3 years. Through the workings of the Budget Strategy Task Group, and Procurement Board we will drive up efficiency. We have made this a key priority, the Council Tax payer will not support Labour's endless Council Tax hikes, or the Liberal, 'spend, spend, spend' proposals.
It is only the Conservatives who will deliver a fair and affordable Council Tax.
