31/03/05 - KFC Action, Consumer Power!

KFC UPDATE – Thursday 31st March 2005

CONSUMER POWER!!!

Thank you to everyone who has already sent in your letters of objection, or signed a petition.  This is crucial, as it will allow the Planning Officers to clearly show that local residents are against this scheme in the report to the Planning Committee.

It is not too late to send in your objections, please send them to me and I will pass them all on.  Cllr Justin Tomlinson, 68 Ravenglass Road, Swindon SN5 7BW justin@abbeymeadsintouch.com

As explained in the local media and in our recent leaflet we are legally very restricted in our ability to block this scheme.  However, we will try everything we can to try and find objection(s) that can stand up in court.

Local Resident Action

  1. CONSUMER POWER

They say the most powerful campaigners are consumers.  KFC will be relying on your local trade, so I suggest we let them know directly that we won’t be using the new outlet.

Please also send a copy to the agency who are co-ordinating the application:

  1. RESTRICTED OPENING TIMES / TAKE-AWAYS

As legally we cannot block a food outlet on this site (as outline planning permission was granted over 10 years ago), we should focus on any restrictions that can be applied.  (As we did successfully on the breakfast trade with McDonalds).

Those who have already sent in an objection, please could you send me a further letter or e-mail requesting that the evening opening times should be restricted, perhaps at 10pm, due to the proximity to a residential area.

I also think there will be some merit in objecting specifically to the impact of take-away creating litter in the local area.  Therefore we would like to push for a block / restriction on the take-away element.

Can you send these as separate e-mails / letters, with the title being either ‘opening times’ or ‘take-away / litter’.

Kind regards, Cllr Justin Tomlinson
