Chilldren are not getting involved in sport and outdoor play because they are sacred to leave their own homes according to a study.

The research by the Children's Society and the Children's Play Council, found that 40% of the children do not play outside as much as they would like.

They are reluctant to leave the comfort of their bedrooms and believe there are not enough facilities.

And Councillor Justin Tomlinson, Swindon Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture & Recreation and Conservative Abbey Meads ward Councillor, agreed with them.

"This is an issue I feel passionately about as a ward Councillor.  My local residents can clearly see there is not enough free leisure provision, such as open spaces where their kids can kick a ball around."

"As a Council we have pledged to improve design codes, of which this is one issue that must be tackled.  Failure to do this is creating an anti-social time-bomb."

"Bored teenagers equals crime, which is why this is in our 50 pledges."
