Whether you are young, or just young at heart, STEAM Museum of Great Western Railway is hosting some great events for all the family this October.
On 7 and 8 October Swindon-based STEAM throws open its doors to the Great Western Lego Train Show a must for children and anyone with fond memories of the fabulous toy bricks.
There will be an amazing miniature railway display built entirely from LEGO. The exhibition features steam and diesel locomotives created by the exhibitors, along with some custom rolling stock, scenery, bridges and stations.
Meanwhile visitors to STEAM on 14 and 15 October will be able to ride the real Thomas the Tank Engine as one of the most popular dates in the museums calendar returns.
The Day Out With Thomas weekend features the famous loco with Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller, keeping the engines in order.
There will also be craft activities, storytelling, face painting, competitions and quiz trails so much to keep youngsters busy during the Thomas weekend.
As well as visiting attractions, STEAM has plenty of permanent displays to keep visitors enthralled.
The museum is a must for railway enthusiasts however it also gives a social history of the area telling the story of the men and women who built, operated and travelled the Great Western Railway.
STEAM, which is owned and managed by Swindon Borough Council, has an education programme closely linked to the National Curriculum so youngsters can learn as well as have fun during a visit to the museum.
Swindon Borough Council cabinet member for leisure, recreation and culture, Cllr Justin Tomlinson, said: These fabulous fun events at STEAM give youngsters a great introduction to the museum. And when theyve visited once, they will be hooked as the museum has so much to offer all the family.
