03/02/09 - PS7 Primary School Update

We still waiting on the School Adjudicator to confirm which bid will be successful in applying to run the new Primary School in Oakhurst (PS7)

On Thursday 29th, both bids were invited to meet the School Adjudicator in person to discuss their bids.

Cllr Justin Tomlinson, Cllr Garry Perkins (Conservative, Lead Member Education) and local parent Richard Kirk joined the Swindon Borough Council team during the meeting with the School Adjudicator.

We were able to go into detail how a Swindon Borough Council Community School would:

  • Provide the maximum potential number of places for local residents
  • Would provide a community facility for Oakhurst
  • Would reduce the impact of traffic and parking
  • Would immediately be full with local children
  • Would offer the best educational standards
  • Has 100% support of the local community
  • Would work in conjunction with the neighbouring Primary Schools

This was an extremely positive and constructive meeting. We had plenty of opportunity to put our case across strongly.

We are hopeful that the result will be confirmed before February 13th, though we are still pressing for a quicker response.

Once again, thank you to each and every resident who took the time to support the campaign - this 100% constructive and positive resident backing has been noted by the School Adjudicator and I believe had made a SIGNIFICANT impression.
