A number of local residents have highlighted an increase in dog mess.
Swindon Council in conjunction with the surrounding Parish Councils have provided a total of 339 dog bins in various locations across the borough to serve dog walkers. Although the provisions of these bins has corresponded to a significant reduction in dog fouling, it is now the case that a small minority of dog walkers are still not picking up after their dog irrespective of how close they may be to a dog bin.
We have asked the dog warden team to increase their efforts / presence in our area, in particular in the parks and popular walkways.
The Council dog warden does patrol areas where dog fouling complaints have been received. Prior to this complainants are asked to gather information on the approximate time of day when the fouling occurs and any description of the likely dog concerned. This enables the warden to target his patrols and in many circumstances enables him to confront the person responsible. Often this work is undertaken very early in the morning or late evening when people are most likely to be walking their dogs.
