19/08/09 - Labour, Nasty & Negative Campaign On PS7

Every year local residents reject Labour's nasty and negative campaigns in Abbey Meads, yet they never learn.

I have worked extremely hard over the last few years with local residents to deliver the much needed PS7 Community Primary School.

A full history of the campaign can be seen on:  http://www.abbeymeadsintouch.com/page/15/

In summary:

  • I organised and chaired numerous meetings with local residents.
  • I organised and chaired numerous meetings with Education & Finance officers to make sure the school was built swiftly.
  • I organised meetings with local residents and Cllr Rod Bluh, Leader of Swindon Council.
  • I kept all local residents fully informed throughout the whole campaign, including always being available to discuss the campaign / issues face to face.
  • I made repeated representations to the Swindon Council Cabinet, and organised for residents to show their support at these and the informal open Cabinet sessions.
  • I led the successful campaign to secure PS7 as a Community School, defeating the Al Habib Faith School bid.  Interestingly Labour not only refused to cancel the competition process, but the two Labour Cllrs who attended the meeting disgracefully refused to support the Community School bid. (http://www.abbeymeadsintouch.com/news/619/

Cllr Jim Grant (Labour, Western ward) their elections campaign co-ordinator has ordered a freedom of information request into my involvement with the campaign.  This freedom of information request will cost us the tax-payers a fortune.  What a waste of time and effort to satisfy their silly political games, no doubt ready for the General Election campaign where they will finally be booted out of power.  Perhaps if they had taken an interest during the campaign they would already know the answer!!!

Cllr Justin Tomlinson, "Time and time again Labour resort to nasty and negative campaigning.  They need to learn that residents only respond to positive hard work.  Whether it is the PS7 campaign or any other issue, as a local resident myself I will also do everything I can to support fellow local residents.  As a Councillor I take great pride in my work as shown by my 100% attendance record and without hesitation I always roll up my sleeves and get stuck in to help improve our area."
