07/09/09 - Thamesdown Drive To Be Replanted

As anyone who drives down Thamesdown Drive will have noticed, swathes of the middle section are overgrown.  It currently costs £10k every time the middle section is cut (as part of the road needs closing).

Swindon Council is to make changes to address this situation.  The intention is to leave the planting sections that are working effectively to prevent weed growth and replace the other sections with self bonding gravel. This work will be carried out as a rolling programme over the next few years and therefore funded within existing grounds maintenance budget. The work will start at the Taw Hill end of Thamesdown Drive and will commence as soon as the mowing season is completed.

Cllr Justin Tomlinson, "I am delighted at this news as I have pressed hard to improve the appearance of the middle section of Thamesdown Drive and this will make a real difference.''
