I am delighted to report positive progress relating to the Mayfly Road bridge.
Following pressure from myself and local residents on the need to not only build the permanent bridge in Mayfly Road, but to also address the muddy access with the current temporary bridge, it appears action will be follow on both issues.
Firstly I arranged for the North Swindon Development Company who are responsible for the bridge to visit the site. They have confirmed the following:
Our civil engineering contractor has also been asked to come up with a more robust scaffold system that will supplement the existing hand rail with both a mid height rail and a toe board to run the length of both sides. We will of course need to obtain prices for this but I would hope that this will be undertaken within two to three weeks.
With respect to the permanent bridge I have had a figure for the commuted sum proposed by your Bridges people that I am happy to recommend acceptance of to the NSDC Steering Committee tomorrow. All things being equal I would hope that a start could be made on this permanent structure before the end of the month.
Cllr Justin Tomlinson, "This is fantastic news and I am sure local residents will be delighted to see action on this long standing issue.''
