Abbey Meads ward councillors today urged local people to find time this weekend to put forward their views over plans for the new Aldi supermarket, before the consultation deadline on Monday. Aldi has submitted a planning application for the 1000 sq m store with 100 car parking spaces at the junction of Thamesdown Drive and Latham Road - usually known as the Motorola junction. |
Councillors have delievered around a thousand leaflets to houses in St Andrews Ridge giving details of the proposal and how to submit comments. The move came after a public meeting attended by Cllrs Vera Tomlinson, Peter Stoddart and Peter Heaton-Jones at which fears were voiced that the new store could harm the Costcutter convenience shop at the local village centre.
Cllr Peter Stoddart said, "Everyone has busy lives, but I would urge local residents to find a spare half an hour over the weekend to look at the plans and submit their views. Personally, I am against the plans, but everyone must make up their minds. You only have until Monday 19 July to submit your views, so please find some time over the weekend to have your say on this important issue".
