Victory for residents in St Andrews Ridge! Lorries will not be allowed to operate 24 hours a day at the former Motorola building, after the Planning Committee of Swindon Borough Council rejected the proposal last night.
The Committee refused to allow Vygon's application to remove the current restrictions on vehicle movements, and instead decided to defer any decision to a future date.
It came after strong representations from local residents, backed by Abbey Meads ward councillors Vera Tomlinson, Peter Stoddart and Peter Heaton-Jones.
Cllr Heaton-Jones said after the meeting, "I'm delighted to say that the committee did not allow Vygon's application to go ahead.
"Instead it was agreed to defer the decision for several months to allow for further discussions, then the committee will consider any new proposal that comes forward.
"So the existing restrictions, limiting lorry movements to daytimes only, will continue to apply in the meantime.
"This was a victory for the residents in St Andrews Ridge who I represented at the meeting, and I'm very happy that we've stopped this proposal going ahead."
