17/08/10 - New Parish Councillor Sought for Haydon Wick

Haydon Wick Parish Council - which covers part of Abbey Meads Borough Ward - is looking for a new councillor.  The Council today announced that the vacancy will be filled by 'co-option', because it has been open for more than 60 days.

This means there is no need for an election if there is more than one candidate.  Instead, anyone can apply to join the Council, and if there is more than one suitable applicant, the Council decides who to appoint without the need for a public vote.

Haydon Wick Parish Council's website says:
Notice is hereby given that a vacancy in the office of Parish councillor for the Haydon Wick Ward of the Parish of Haydon Wick will be filled by co-option to council.
More information and application forms may be obtained from the clerk at the Council Offices, Thames Avenue, Haydon Wick.

Cllr Peter Heaton-Jones, who is also a Haydon Wick Parish Councillor, said, "Although this vacancy is technically for the Haydon Wick Ward of the Parish, Parish Councillors all work together for the whole area.  So I would urge anyone living in Abbey Meads to think about applying, so that local residents are strongly represented on the Parish Council".
