Peter Stoddart re-elected

Cllr Peter Stoddart won yet another resounding victory and was re-elected as Swindon Borough Councillor for Abbey Meads with a big majority of 1,501.

The result was:

PETER STODDART, CONSERVATIVE - 2,610 (60%)

LABOUR - 1,109 (26%)

LIBERAL DEMOCRATS - 368 (9%)

UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY - 237 (5%)

The Conservatives' vote share of 60% is an increase of 5% on the local election result a year ago. The gap between the Conservatives and the second-placed candidate was also greater than a year ago.

Peter Heaton-Jones was elected with the largest number of votes achieved by any council candidate on 6 May 2010.

ABBEY MEADS WARD - Electorate 10,695

Councillor Vera Tomlinson was elected in a landslide victory. Voters overwhemingly rejected the typically nasty, desperate and negative Labour campaign. This was a record victory for the Conservatives in Abbey Meads.

Labour - 266 (11%)
Lib Dem 226 (9%)
UKIP 90 (4%)
