Peter Heaton-Jones was elected as the new Swindon Borough Councillor for Abbey Meads ward at the local elections on 6 May 2010. The full result was:

Peter Heaton-Jones - Conservative - 4377
Catherine Smith - LibDem - 1722
Asif Rabbani - Labour -1578
Rhian Vaughan - UKIP - 256

Conservative Majority: 2,655

Cllr Peter Heaton-Jones says, “I want to thank everyone who put their faith in me and supported me in such large numbers. I’m looking forward to working with Vera Tomlinson and Peter Stoddart, my fellow ward councillors, to make sure that local residents have a strong voice to represent them on Swindon Borough Council”.
